The Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence K.W. (BoHing Chan) Tseu Center for Nursing Education
Nursing Skills Laboratories
The Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence K.W.(BoHing Chan) Tseu Center for Nursing Education includes two eight-bed nursing labs. The labs include two Laerdal VitaSim Simulators to assist in application of concepts taught in courses such as Health Assessment and Complex Disease I, II & III. A plethora of task trainers allow students to practice clinical nursing skills. The Family & Child Care Nursing course utilizes eight bassinettes with Nita Newborns, assisting nursing students to gain confidence with skills that are within that clinical specialty. The learning space has seven laptops on wheels that provide an electronic medical record and critical technology informatics practice.
E.L. Wiegand Simulation Suite
Human Simulation Suite
Chaminade University of Honolulu (CUH) received funds from the E. L. Wiegand Foundation. Funds were utilized for instrumentation, audio-visual, technical, and computer support for a high-fidelity human simulation suite in the Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence K.W. (BoHing Chan) Tseu Center for Nursing Education.
The learning space of the E.L. Wiegand Simulation Suite has six high-fidelity simulators. The simulators include CAE/METI iStan, MetiMan, PediaSim, and BabySim along with the Gaumard Noelle and Newborn Hal. Simulation is used throughout the nursing curriculum as a teaching pedagogy. Simulation allows the nursing students at CUH the opportunity to increase clinical reasoning skills and build confidence in conjunction with their classroom and clinical activities. Use of the facilities has been promoted for Community Partners of CUH SON.
EMS Digital AV System
The capabilities of the state-of-the-art audiovisual system allow several simulations to be run at a single time. The video is captured immediately and used during the essential debriefing process following simulations. The video can be used for performance evaluation, which promotes quality learning and supports accreditation requirements.

Welcome to the E.L. Wiegand Simulation Center.
00:00:05,750 –> 00:00:08,340
Come on in and see what we’ve got.
00:00:08,340 –> 00:00:09,990
We have a birthing simulator whose name
00:00:09,990 –> 00:00:12,230
is Noel. She is able to give birth and
00:00:12,230 –> 00:00:14,009
provide students with valuable learning
00:00:14,009 –> 00:00:16,340
opportunities. We have two high fidelity
00:00:16,340 –> 00:00:18,170
mannequins that can either be changed to
00:00:18,170 –> 00:00:20,770
female or male gender, depending on what
00:00:20,770 –> 00:00:22,869
we need for the scenario. We also have a
00:00:22,869 –> 00:00:25,320
pediatric and newborn simulator. The
00:00:25,320 –> 00:00:27,439
control areas consists of two control
00:00:27,439 –> 00:00:29,849
computers the control computers control
00:00:29,849 –> 00:00:31,640
the audio visual components during the
00:00:31,640 –> 00:00:34,270
simulation. All the rooms have cameras
00:00:34,270 –> 00:00:36,340
and audio and the students are taped
00:00:36,340 –> 00:00:37,760
during their scenario.
00:00:37,900 –> 00:00:41,220
Hope you enjoyed our nursing facilities, can’t wait to see you in class.
